Turquoise inlaying

How to make turquoise dishes

The surface of the turquoise is made of the desired metal, such as copper and brass by the press machine and enters the turquoise stage. Turquoise beater separates the small pieces of turquoise that need to be glued to the surface of the dishes. Then powdered walnut varnish on the surface of the desired dish and heat them using an alcohol lamp. The turquoise stones, which should be about the same size, on the melted lacquers, and when the desired surface is coverd, it covers the empty spaces with smaller pieces, and the unevenness on the surface with the help of the water-repellent stone. At the end of the work, its surface is cleaned and polished. Turquoise beater uses tools and equipment such as hammers, molds, alcohol lamps, drills, pliers and presses.

The stage of making turquoise are generally in two stages:

1) Making the body

2) Placing the turquoise

In the first step, the metal of the desired container, which can be made of brass, copper or silver, is selected by the master craftsman. It is then bent or pressed in the hand of the master or machine. In quality products, the thickness of the container surfaces should be the same when performing this step. Also, the angles and corners of the object should be the same. For small containers, the metal should be thin and large containers should be thick so as not to damage the metal in the final finish. In the preparation of the infrastructure, there is a step called carpentry in which the parts to be turquoise are lowered 2 to 3 mm at a 90-degree angle.

Steps before turquoise

The pre-turquoise steps involve preparing the dish. Before threshing, the dish is heated and the lacquer obtained from walnut wood is first layered in the form of the tree bark. They hit the surface of the dish, then the prepared walnut lacquer and rosin powder are heated and melted. This process is repeated several times to increase the thickness of this layer of varnish and turquoise is applied on it. In heating, we must be careful that overheating causes the varnish to burn and causes the adhesion to lose its adhesive property. Now start gluing the turquoise pieces on the work surface. Heat the turquoise stones a little and then to speed up the work, for some of them on the dish to sink in the lacquer and the fix them with pliers. There are cases when the work is finished, the turquoise stones are separated from the conatiner. In three cases, the lacquer powder is poured on the desired rapair part again.
